Sisters Liepa and Rugsėja and their mother, photographer Šyla, live in their own little world of their own creation, full of art, strange costumes and worms grown in an aquarium. Teenagers have their own language, signals, rules, what can and cannot be done. The never-separated girls are true opposites: September is combative, distrustful, always ready to defend Liepa, who is bullied at school, naive but open to the world and new experiences. When September is suspended from classes, Liepa slowly begins to explore the limits of her independence. The tension begins to grow when the whole family moves to an old holiday home in Ireland, where Liepai will have to answer the question - how far is she willing to go and what will she sacrifice in order to maintain the special bond between her and her sister.

The Greek-French actresses who directed the film Ariane Labed's career began with memorable roles in uncomfortable, darkly humorous and absurd films by spouse Yorgos Lanthimos and Athina Rachel Tsangari. "September Says" is her feature directorial debut, based on Daisy Johnson's contemporary gothic novel "Sisters", in which the director gently flirts with the tropes of Greek Weird Wave films, but also offers a unique look at the complex microcosm of a family, where love is inseparable from power games and manipulation, and independence comes at a very high price. Cold in her arms is her sick son Jay, a young mother is distracted in Paris - she is late for the audition of a modern ballet.
