In order to emphasize the importance of medieval art and the need to restore the endangered heritage of this era, he wrote and illustrated many historical, theoretical and pedagogical works. One of his most important works is the explanatory dictionary of the 11th -sixteenth century French architecture (Dictionnaire Raisonné de l'Ah architecture two xie au xvievie siècle, 1854-1868).
