The World Congress of Mercy is an initiative of the Catholic Church, held every three years in a different country. The purpose of the Congress is to help people all over the world experience God's mercy, which heals, transforms and inspires works of mercy. The sixth World Congress of Mercy will be held in Vilnius, the city of God's mercy, where during St. Faustina was reminded of the message of God's mercy to the world today. God's mercy is the most important attribute of God revealed in the history of salvation.
The theme of the event - "Building a City of Mercy" - invites every participant to become part of a living culture of mercy in their family, community and society. This culture, which is born from the relationship with God and another person, develops openness to dialogue, truth, the ability to recognize human fragility, compassion and love of neighbor. The city of mercy is not an array of buildings, but the lives of people touched by God's love. Each participant is invited to become a living "brick of mercy" that embodies a culture of mercy in their environment and in their lifestyle.

in 2026 Vilnius will be the home of the 6th World Compassion Congress. People of various nationalities and religions have lived together in Vilnius since its foundation. The history of the city is full of not only the clang of weapons or cultural transformations, but also thousands of works of mercy, to which various monasteries paid special attention. The tradition of works of mercy in Vilnius continues to this day. In this city and St. Faustina Kovalska together with pal. Fr. Mykolo Sopočka undertook a mission of mercy.
The congress will take place in the heart of Vilnius's mercy - on the Saviour's hill, where since the 17th century works of mercy spread. Missionary monks, Sharite sisters and Visitation sisters diligently worked and prayed here. The initiated established a hospital, took care of the sick and the poor. During the Soviet era, the complex of the Visitation monastery became a symbol of suffering - this place was turned into a prison by the Soviet occupiers. It was here between the wars that the first picture of the Merciful Jesus, known throughout the world, was painted. According to St. Faustina's visions with the message of Jesus' mercy were painted by artist Eugenijus Kazimirovskis. Today, the Sisters of Merciful Jesus live and serve on the Saviour's Hill, they care for seriously ill and dying patients in their hospice.
The Congress will be held in Vilnius on June 7-12, from the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ to the Solemnity of the Heart of Jesus, paying special attention to St. To the Heart of Jesus, the source of mercy. Responding to Pope Francis' encyclical Dilexit nos call to turn to the Heart of Jesus, the congress will be invited to pray for mercy for a world that has lost sensitivity and fallen into the trap of wars.
