The next exotic stop in the cycle of "Musical tours around the world with Eirim Velička" is Bali! During the afternoon dedicated to the music of the Indonesian island, we will listen to high-quality recordings from rare vinyl records and Eirim's stories. The Indonesian island of Bali can rightly be called a paradise for lovers of exotic music. The relatively small island is characterized by an incredible abundance of music genres and a colorful variety of instrument timbres. After dark, the music is performed outside - in the yard of the temple or palace, under the trees.
Many instruments are made from natural materials, so their consonances resemble the sounds of the environment. An ensemble of bamboo 'geng-gong' tambourines and a 'ngō' rattle creates music reminiscent of the croaking of frogs. The shadow theater performance is supported by the metallophone quartet 'gender wayang'. The gong and metallophone orchestra 'gamelan semar' and the bamboo xylophone orchestra - 'jegog' stand out with their distinctive sound. The dance and music performance kechak ('kechak') depicts scenes from the Hindu epic Ramayana: it is performed by a huge male chorus.
This afternoon we will listen to recordings from rare vinyl records, ethnomusicologist Eirim Velička will tell us about Balinese music.
