Sometimes you can be surprised to realize , as one or another widely used word changes its meaning over the centuries. Now we understand the word "melodrama" as a certain genre of the movie. And what did this concept previously mean, which is derived from two Greek words: "melos" - song or melody and "drama" - action? In the eighteenth century, it was a very popular and distinctive genre of musical theater in which the recited text alternated with the music, and was sometimes read to the music. The genre was born as an effort by the artists of that time to revive the aesthetic principle of the Renaissance era: the connection between the flexible development of dramaturgical thought and the natural expressiveness of music. In later times, the creators of the romantic era turned to this unusual genre, among whom the expressive opera creator Richard Strauss shone as the brightest star. His melodramas are real musical performances, during which an expressively read story intertwines with evocative and refreshing music.
Two prominent artists have joined forces - pianist Alexander Paleyus and actor Vytautas. Rumš the elder invites the listeners to immerse themselves in the braids of romantic stories, accompanied by the most wonderful passages of piano music. The stories they tell will take the listener to the shores of distant seas, accompany them through exotic countries and tell of great love and indescribable sacrifices in the name of this noble feeling. The audience will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the genre of romantic melodrama, listening to the texts of poets of the Romantic era translated into Lithuanian and the enchanting, refreshing music of R. Strauss.
