Kaunas Philharmonic Hall
The axis of the program is music from Martyn's first solo album "Autograph", which brought him the instrumentalist of the year prize at the prestigious "Opus Klassik 2023" awards in Europe last year. These are Philip Glass Etudes for piano, contemporary French accordionist and composer Frank Angeli's "Impasse" - originally created for accordion and Lithuanian folk songs arranged by Martyn himself: "Leliumoj", "Šiū namo", "Palinko liepa", "Rūta žalioj", "Beauštanti". dawn". "Some of these songs have very personal and old stories from my childhood, when I was four or five," says Martynas, adding that his favorite is "Beauštanti Aušrelė". He performed it for the current King of the United Kingdom, Charles III, and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival a decade ago.
The last year is the time of Martyns Levickis' flight to unprecedented heights, the result of his extraordinary talent and patient work. In the summer of 2023, he opened the famous Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern music festival in Germany as a resident. In the more than three-decade history of this music forum, Martynas is the first resident who plays the accordion. Last fall, he returned to his alma mater, London's Royal Academy of Music, as a visiting professor. Here he studied by himself, in 2016 he was ceremoniously announced as an associate member of this academy. Such a degree is awarded to former students who have successfully developed a career in the world of music and whose professional contribution is extremely significant. "I won't hide it - teaching work attracts me and I hoped that I might get such an invitation someday. It was unexpected that it happened now," he recalls the call that invited the 33-year-old to become a teacher at the famous academy.
Thanks to Martynas, who plays in the most famous halls abroad, the name of Lithuania and Lithuanian music are heard more and more widely, because concerts, and especially solo recitals, are becoming extremely rare in the homeland. This August is therefore special both for the musician himself and for the fans of his work.
