Visiting Kaunas for the first time, the Torun Symphony Orchestra invites you to an exclusive concert "Musical Bridges: Lithuania-Poland", where music becomes a link between the history, culture and artistic friendship of two close nations. The program of this concert reveals the close cultural ties between Lithuania and Poland, and at the same time provides an opportunity to hear valuable works of Polish symphonic music, which are rarely heard in the concert halls of our country.
Dainius Pavilionis, the creator and conductor of the program, who leads both the artistic activities of the Torun Symphony Orchestra and actively fosters the musical dialogue between Lithuania and Poland, offers the listeners a musical journey through different eras and stylistic directions this evening.
The concert will begin with the energetic and colorful Overture for orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz, one of the most prominent Polish composers of the 20th century. A famous Polish composer and virtuoso violinist of Lithuanian and Polish descent. Her father was the musician Vincas Bacevičius, whose family roots closely connect this family with Lithuania. Although the composer was born in Łódź and spent most of her life in Warsaw, she maintained close ties with Lithuania and lived and performed in Kaunas for some time.
Next, the special fruit of the collaboration between Lithuanian and Polish creators will be heard - the work "Song of Two Rivers" by composers Magdalena Cynk and Zita Bružaitė, in which the two rivers symbolizing the nations meet - Vistula and Neris.
One of the highlights of the evening will be Mieczysław Karłowicz's "Lituvian Rhapsody" - a piece born from the composer's admiration for the Lithuanian landscape, folklore and romantic vision of its history. This symphonic poem is considered one of the most significant musical interpretations of Lithuanian motifs in the history of Polish music.
The program will also feature excerpts from the suite created by one of the most famous Polish composers of film music, Wojciech Kilar, for the film Mr. Tadas. Inspired by the national epic, this music conveys the spirit of the 19th century Republic of the Two Peoples, the nostalgic longing for the native land and the majestic historical memory. Undoubtedly, one of the most famous works of Adam Mickevičius has a longer title - "Mr. Tadas or the last attack in Lithuania".
At the end of the evening, the audience will hear the temperamental mazurkas from the operas "Halka" and "Ghost's Mansion", created by Stanisław Moniuszko, who is called the father of Polish national opera. These works remind not only of Polish musical theater traditions, but also of the composer's own close ties with Lithuanian culture - a significant part of his life and work was connected with Vilnius.
"Musical Bridges: Lithuania-Poland" is more than a concert. It is an invitation to look at the shared cultural heritage of the two nations, discover lesser-known musical treasures and hear the stories told by symphonic music that connects different shores, cities and generations.
