Hector Berlioz - "Fantastic Symphony"
Two geniuses - music visionaries Hector Berlioz and Frédéric Chopin - will meet at this exclusive concert of Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra.
The program will feature the most famous French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830. The work was created - "Fantastic Symphony" ("Episode from Artist's Life", 1830), inspired by Thomas de Quinco's autobiographical novel "Confession of English Opium User".
Fantastic Symphony - Revolutionary 19th Century Music masterpiece full of dramatic contrasts, bright orchestral colors and extraordinary imagination. This work is the story of a young artist's love, passion, dreams and nightmares that Berlioz conveyed with a stunning visual force.
Often this piece is called the French music romantic manifesto. In this symphony, advanced Paris artists saw the beginning of a new musical school. Not only her musical language was innovative. It was especially unusual that the score had a peculiar "accessory" - a comprehensive, film script -like literary program called "The Episode of Artist's Life". This program is autobiographical, it reveals the love story of temperamental musician and Irish actress H. Smitson. Symphony innovativeness also featured monotematism - the whole cycle is united by a loved one. Orchestral innovations also appear in the work - English horn, harp, small and bass clarinets, phagot. Emphasizing the fact that the symphony is made up of five parts, they all have separate names: the first - "visions and passion", the second - "Ball", the third - "Scene in the fields", the fourth - "Walking to the Cartoons" and the last "Witches Sabbath".
Reality and fantastic images intertwine in Fantastic Symphony. The composer creates a tale of a young musician who, in a grief for hopeless love, tries to poison, but only sinks into the world of mysterious visions. H. Berlioz turns the feelings, emotions and memories of experiences into musical images and fantasies.
The concert will also feature the FRédéric Chopin - a concert for the piano and orchestra - a piece where the subtle piano lyrics blend in harmoniously with the orchestra colors, creating a sensual and elegant musical image. It is one of the most beautiful examples of romantic piano music, full of tenderness, virtuosity and feelings. Dainius Pavilionis will stand behind the conductor.
