The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and its artistic director and chief. conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius invites the audience to an evening of music by the famous French impressionist Maurice Ravel (1875–1937). The soloist of this concert is Lukas Geniušas, one of the brightest and most interesting pianists of his generation.
Praised by the international press for his talent and maturity (The Guardian), L. Geniuš is regularly invited to perform in the prestigious concert halls of the world: London's Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Paris' Salle Gaveau, Louvre Auditorium, New York's Frick Collection, Washington's Phillips Collection, Genoa's Teatro Carlo Felice, Milan's Sala Verdi and others. Due to his characteristic curiosity and broad musical interests, L. Geniušas is characterized by a wide spectrum of performed music, from baroque to contemporary music. The artist fascinates listeners not only with his impressive virtuosity, but also with his stylishness, intellectual enunciation, harmony of temperament, emotions and logic. His recordings also receive the best reviews from critics: 2019 the pianist was awarded the "Diapason" magazine's Recital of the Year award, and in 2022 for his joint work with Asmik Grigorian, he won the prestigious Gramophone Classical Music Award
The first part of the concert will feature M. Ravel's orchestral suites from the ballet "Daphnis and Chloe". It is a story dating back to ancient Greece about the love between the goatherd Daphnis and the shepherdess Chloe. M. Ravel also called the ballet a "choreographic symphony" - both his contemporaries and modern critics agreed that this work is the composer's "masterpiece for the symphony orchestra".
In the second part of the concert, L. Geniušas will perform M. Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major, a work inspired by jazz melodies and harmonies, which appeared in the 20th century. initially fascinated both Paris and the United States. The culmination of the evening is Bolero, one of M. Ravel's most famous works and an undoubted pearl of classical music. Created on the motifs of the Spanish dance bolero, the piece captivates the listener from the first bars, drawing more and more into the mysterious and enchanting whirlwind of the dance.
