The music created by L. Vilkončius is no less impressive. "L. Vilkončius created such strong and talented music that highlights the essence of the poetic text and makes it meaningful. In this case, S. Geda's verses and L. Vilkončius' music do not compete - they correspond and complement each other. In my opinion, "Eglė" is undoubtedly one of the best rock operas in the history of Lithuanian music," says maestro G. Rinkevičius about the work.
The large-scale work brought together three famous artists many years ago - the author of the idea, Vytautas Kernagis, composer Laimis Vilkontiči and poet, dramatist Sigitas Gedas. in 1976 S. Geda, who started writing the libretto for the rock opera "Eglė", did not so much retell the content of the popular fairy tale as transferred its philosophical thought to a cosmopolitan level, emphasizing the problem of human relationships. In S. Geda's libretto, the question of the survival of the Baltic nations is highlighted through the collision of the elements of Sky, Sea and Earth. The serpent symbol bridges the ages to the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom. The lines from its epilogue reveal perhaps the most clear essential idea of the libretto: "We are all Indians, Lithuanians, we are all Prussians, Aztecs, we are all people and nations of all races and faiths, let us remember our parents, grandparents, let us remember our ancestors, the Milky Way, from which we happily fell to this Earth, by this Sea!". Although S. Geda wrote the aforementioned libretto in 1976, his ideas correspond to the 21st century. current affairs of the world, as if they were written today.
Not a single nation of the world has its own epic whose heroes are justifiably proud. Our nation has the most archaic and most popular work preserved - the Lithuanian folk tale "Eglė, queen of snakes", whose roots are believed to go back to pre-Indo-European times of the Stone Age. Everyone knows the plot of the fairy tale - more than a hundred different versions of it have survived in folklore, and its content has attracted dozens of classics of Lithuanian literature.
