World-renowned pianist ALEXANDER PALEY and baritone GIEDRIUS PRUNSKUS, who fosters the art song genre, will start an extraordinary idea with this concert - a three-night marathon in which all the vocal cycles of the genius romantic Franz Schubert will be played.
Tonight, the audience will hear the first cycle "The Beautiful Miller", created with texts by the poet Wilhelm Müller. The romantic and nostalgic story will immerse the listeners in the whirlwind of feelings of an apprentice tormented by unrequited love, colored by the sounds of wonderful and elegant music.
"The beautiful miller" is the first romantic vocal cycle in the history of music. This is a kind of novel, composed in the form of short stories: each song is as if independent, but is integrated into a general plot line, which has an exposition, an introduction, a climax and a core. The songs are characterized by unpretentious, immediately memorable melodies in the style of folk songs, are simple, usually in couplet form. The piano accompaniment often illustrates images of nature inspired by the romantic spirit: next to the main character, an important place is occupied by the image of his friend and comforter - the stream.
The cycle was created in 1820. - during the period of F. Schubert's creative flourishing. By then, he had already created hundreds of songs, which gradually gained recognition among music lovers and were performed at home music parties. In the last five years of his short life, the composer embarked on a new, large-scale romantic genre, the vocal cycle, laying the foundations for the further flourishing of this impressive genre.
