The famous Huelgian ensemble from Belgium, led by artistic director and conductor Paul van Nemvela, will appear in Kaunas for the second time. For more than half a century, this collective has been recognized worldwide as one of the most prominent ensembles, specializing in medieval and Renaissance polyphonic music. The Huelgas ensemble is famous for its innovative and creative programs and exceptionally viable interpretations. They often perform in authentic space - old chapels and monasteries, creating a special interaction between music and architecture.
Polyphilo Dream is not only a musical journey to the past, but also a deep aesthetic research on beauty. This program was inspired by the 15th -16th centuries. The literary work of the Francesco Colonna, "The Dream of the Polyphilo", in which the searches and experiences of the polyphil's love of the protagonist intertwine with the detailed descriptions of the aesthetics of that period - architecture, nature, flowers, music and dances. According to conductor P. Van Nemveo, this book reveals how the concept of the Renaissance beauty combines different periods from medieval to nineteenth century romanticism.
During the concert, listeners will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the harmonious world of polyphonic music, to feel the links between the epochs and to the eternity of beauty in the special acoustic environment of the Bank of Lithuania.
