FREILEKH!
March 6 6:30 p.m.
Chamber hall "Polyphony"
Gintaras Janusevičius (piano, Germany)
Program:
The highlights of the program are Felix Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" arranged by Vladimir Horowitz and Earl Wild's Seven Etudes, which have never been fully performed in Lithuania, on the themes of George Gershwin's Broadway musicals, and jazz dances by Erwin Schulhoff, who was called the ancestor of European jazz. The audience will also get to know the Latvian composer Marc Lavry, Lithuanian composer Philip Glass, child prodigy Erich Korngold, Viktor Ullmann, who composed in the Theresienstadt concentration camp and is famous for his unique musical language, and prominent Hollywood composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, whose students include the famous John Williams. The program will combine jazz, classical and film music with Jewish national motifs.
Pianist Gintaras Januševičius has been surprising listeners with inventive programs for ten years. In each of them, G. Januševičius, as if a chameleon, reincarnates not only into different characters, but also moves to another era, culture or musical style. After many years of refining his unique programs, he carefully selects the works and, as it were, assembles them into a single musical necklace, which he embellishes with stories, images, acting elements or even smells. With his innovative concert ideas, he fascinates the listeners of New York, Paris, London, Zurich, Rio de Janeiro, and he also returns to Lithuanian concert halls every year.
In the latest application FREYLEKH! G. Januševičius tells inspiring life stories of composers of Jewish origin. "My grandmother was a Jew who survived World War II. This program is a reflection of her smile, optimism, and strength," says the pianist.
The general mood of the program, as suggested by the Yiddish word "freylekh", is cheerful, uplifting, festive, inviting you to dance and forget the worries that have surrounded the sky of life.
