Rubackytė, winner of the National Prize, who lives in Vilnius, Paris and Geneva and performs all over the world, will perform two piano opuses from different eras and styles in this concert - the Viennese classic Joseph Haydn and the great romantic Ferenc Liszt.
"Liszt's music is like a golden thread runs through my biography... I am always full of love for him," said the pianist, named "one of the best living Liszt performers" by Fanfare magazine (USA). M. Rubackytė is a member of the International F. Liszt Associations (ILA) office, the president of the F. Liszt Society in Lithuania "LiSZtuania" and the national competition "Lisztofonija", artistic director of the Vilnius International Piano Music Festival. This spring M. Rubackyte was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order "For Merit".
F. Liszt's "Malédiction" (circa 1840) was discovered only after the author's death, when a manuscript of the work was found among his other papers. The opus is so named because of the word written above the soloist's part on the first sheet of the score. 1780-1783 Written by J. Haydn, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 11 is the most popular of the composer's 12 concertos for this instrument. Its third part, Rondo all'Ungarese, is a stylization of Hungarian music. The concert will also feature Haydn's Twelfth Symphony in E major (1763) and the 20th century. Hungarian composer Béla Bartók's Divertisment for string orchestra (1939).
Conductor D. Somogyi-Tóth is the artistic director and director of the Kodály Philharmonic in Debrecen, and tours with its ensembles at home and abroad. He has conducted at Zurich Tonhalle, Beijing National Arts Center, Munich Philharmonic, Tel Aviv Opera, Ravenna Teatro Alighieri, Budapest National Opera House and other venues. As a soloist of the Hungarian National Philharmonic, D. Somogyi-Tóth often plays organ recitals.
