The International Folklore Festival "Pokrov Bells" is one of the oldest cultural events of national communities in Lithuania since 2006. Its name is associated with the Orthodox Pokrov celebration, symbolizing spiritual protection, continuity of traditions and communion. Over two decades, the festival has become a significant cultural platform, which introduces not only folklore of Lithuanian national communities, but also guests from more than 30 countries around the world - from Sacramento, Armenia and Ukraine to India, Mexico or Japan. The festival combines concerts, conferences, traditional singing workshops, educational events and World Music projects.
This year's festival is solemnly opened by a concert where folklore, jazz and contemporary symphonic music meet. The concert belongs to the World Music genre is the direction of world music that creatively combines ethnic heritage and contemporary musical styles of various cultures. It will feature an exclusive work of composer Jasvar Jasinski "Orro" based on cartel folklore motifs, and a symphonic poem "Dedication to Čiurlionis", whose world premiere is for one of the most prominent personalities of Lithuanian culture - Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. This composition is a musical respect for Čiurlionis' creative visionity, combining musical codes, improvisations and contemporary orchestration of different nations.
On the stage, there is a unique composition of performers connecting Lithuanian and Sacramento musicians.
