"Symphonic Elements" promises a strong musical wave, which will be caused by three powerful symphonic opuses - the monumental "Cosmic" Symphony (No. 6) by the Lithuanian avant-garde artist Vytautas Bacevičius, the Concerto for cello, accordion and orchestra "Azul" by the Argentinian of Jewish origin Osvaldos Golijov and the suite from the scandalous opera "Elektra" by Richard Strauss. One of the most active Lithuanian accordionists Tadas Motiečius and perhaps the most versatile Lithuanian cellist Mindaugas Bačkus will play a solo with LNSO.
One of the first Lithuanian avant-garde artists, who spread the constructivist spirit between the wars and called for the creation of a modern Lithuania, was fascinated by the technological process reflected in his symphonic canvases. The Cosmic Symphony is one of his late, most original opus, in which the cosmic idée fixe takes on a purely organized musical form, determined by the composer's intense intellectual and spiritual efforts.
In his Concerto for cello, accordion and orchestra "Azul", Osvaldas Golijov cleverly combines various influences and a new, original vision. Born in La Plata, Argentina, to a family of Eastern European Jewish immigrants, the composer grew up as a musical polyglot, hearing and absorbing various musical styles and genres: old classical music, cantor singing, klezmer music, tango, Latin American folklore. The elements of all these different influences merge in his work into an original musical canvas.
Richard Strauss's opera "Elektra" is the second of the composer's two modernist operas. Fans of the opera genre in German-speaking countries then divided into two camps: some adored it, others mercilessly criticized it. Today, Elektra is one of the most frequently performed operas based on classical Greek mythology.
