This concert dedicated to the 80th birthday of the Latvian composer Pēteris Vaskas will feature works by authors from three Baltic states. P. Vaskas, a great friend of Lithuania, graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater with a major in double bass, speaks excellent Lithuanian and often visits here. His music raises global and timeless questions about life and death, hatred and forgiveness, harmony and chaos. The most important thing in Mr. Vasko's music is the spiritual aspect that penetrates the soul of every listener. "Life is full of idealism and love. With my music, I want to give hope, to tell how wonderful life is and how wonderful people are," says the composer. The Vilnius State Quartet will perform P. Vasko's Third String Quartet.
The concert will also feature the opus "Fratres" by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday - like a meditative journey through the sounds of harmony, and together with pianist Roka Zubov, the Vilnius Quartet will perform Remigius Merkel's piano quintet "MiKonst", written for the 125th anniversary of the birth of M.K. Čiurlionis, but which resonates significantly even now. This composition was inspired both by the musical motifs of Čiurlionis' works and certain codes hidden in the name "MiKonst".
