Conductor Jonas Imantas Šimkus and Jomantė Šležaitė-Paukštė, the charming host of family concerts, will invite the young listeners to go on a journey along four different rivers - the stream that flowed in Ludwig van Beethoven's fantasies, the longest Czech river Vltava, the great Mississippi and the second largest river in Europe, the Danube. What will this journey through nature's images, stories and emotions that composers convey in their music sound like - from the quiet trickle of a stream to wide, powerful currents?
The journey will begin with the second movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Pastoral" symphony, in which the composer masterfully recreates the calm, idyllic flow of a stream. From the landscape of Germany, we will travel to the Czech Republic, where Bedřich Smetana in his symphonic poem "Vltava" paints a wonderful picture of the journey along the river's windings - from the springs to the powerful current that carries it to the capital city of Prague. Then we will move to another continent: the American world of rivers will be revealed by Ferde Grofé's "Mississippi Suite", which features motifs of jazz, blues and old American legends. Finally, we will return to Europe, ending the trip with one of the most famous waltzes of all time, "By the Beautiful Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss II, which allows you to feel the grandeur and elegance of the Danube.
"Four Rivers Journey" is not only a musical journey along the rivers, but also a great opportunity to discover the colors and instruments of a symphony orchestra and listen to stories told without words.
