The Vilnius State Quartet (VVK) and accordionist Tadas Motiečius invite you to spend your Sunday afternoon listening to both popular and unheard-of chamber music for many.
VVK principal, violinist Dalia Kuznetsovaitė about the program: "It was not by chance that we chose the works of Ukrainian and Polish composers for this concert. The last few years have proven how strong the tandem of Lithuanians and the mentioned nations is in the face of war, what power unity and loyalty to true values have. Everyone probably knows the popular Christmas melody "Shchedryk" by Mykola Leontovychius, it is quoted by the Ukrainian composer Dmytro Klebanov's String Quartet dedicated to the memory of M. Leontovichius. This opus of D. Klebanov, a real pearl, enriched with Ukrainian folklore, I believe will impress every listener. Concerto for accordion and strings by the Polish composer Mikołaj Majkusiak was offered by concert soloist T. Motiečius. This innovative piece, which is extremely rarely heard in Lithuania, was originally written for accordion and string orchestra, but the composer reworked it for accordion and string quartet at Tad's request. For us, this Concert is a kind of "stepping out" from the traditional framework of classical music and an opportunity to get acquainted with the contemporary music opus of our neighbor."
The famous 20th century Argentinian composer Ástor Piazzolla fundamentally changed the traditional concept of tango with his work, enriching this dance with elements of jazz and classical music, so he is considered the pioneer of the tango nuevo style and the most famous Argentine music. In his homeland, he is called "El Gran Ástor" (The Great Astor). The concert will feature his "Concierto para quinteto" (Concerto for Quintet) and the four tango cycle "Buenos Aires Seasons" for accordion and strings.
