JOHN ADAMS - Harmonielehre
"Book of Harmony", "Treatise of Harmony" or "Teaching Harmony" - this is how the 1911 work of the pioneer of dodecaphony, Arnold Schönberg, can be translated. created by Harmonielehre. in 1985 this title was borrowed by the US composer John Adams, who said: "My own Harmonielehre is a large three-part piece for orchestra that combines the developmental techniques of minimalism with the harmonic and expressive world of late Romanticism." Shadows of Mahler, Sibelius, Debussy and the young Schönberg are everywhere in this strange work. It's a work with a postmodernist approach to the past." The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and its artistic director, conductor Modestas Pitrėnas, chose this unique, particularly complex piece with a thick texture and sparkling orchestration for the end of the concert. And the program will start with Antanas Rekašius' "Music for Strings" No. 2 (1999) - perhaps the most effective opus of the composer, which ironizes classical music practice, confronts hypertrophied sensuality, temperament and pseudo-pompastic virtuosity.
Along with the piano duet of Rūta Rikterė and Zbigniew Ibelhaupt, the "Tabuh-Tabuhan" Toccata for two pianos and orchestra by American and Canadian composer, ethnomusicologist Colin McPhee will be played. C. McPhee was the first Western composer who was particularly interested in the folklore of the island of Bali and created original opus influenced by Indonesian - Balinese and Javanese music. in 1936 produced "Tabuh-Tabuhan", perhaps the author's best-known work, combining elements of Balinese and traditional Western music, the title of which translates as "drumming".
