VYKINTAS BALTAKAS - Premiere of a new work
MAURICE RAVEL - Piano Trio in A minor, M. 67
During its 28 years of existence, the famous piano trio "Kaskados" has matured its performance style, which is strongly based on the foundations of classicism and romanticism, but the trio's programs always include bright premieres by Lithuanian authors, which eventually become Lithuanian classics of modernism. This happened with the works of Osvaldas Balakauskas, Broniaus Kutavičius, Felix Bajor, Jurgis Juozapaitis, Anatolijus Šenderovs, Loreta Narvilaitė, Raminta Šerkšnytė performed by "Kaskadus". In this concert, the trio presents another intriguing premiere. The author of the new work is Vykintas Baltakas, one of the most interesting contemporary Lithuanian composers, conductor, pedagogue. The members of "Kaskadu" have been actively collaborating with the composer in various projects for many years, have performed all of this author's works for violin, cello and piano, and play music in the "LENsemble" founded by V. Baltak. The new track is dedicated specifically to this trio. "In a musical sense, I have long been fascinated by the idea of living and ever-changing lines woven together like a fabric by three equal instruments," says the author.
The next steps of the program through the eras are the classics and the 20th century. beginning "Kaskados" has performed all of Ludwig van Beethoven's piano trios, so, according to the musicians, it is good to return to the early L. van Beethoven and this time play his Trio, op. 1 in C minor, enjoying the vigor of youth and unbridled joy, which, without anything, enriches the music with its own experience. The rich repertoire and the ensemble's long concert journey dictated the inclusion of the extraordinary beauty of Maurice Ravel's Trio in A minor in the program, which becomes like a bridge, reminiscent of the first "Kaskadu" concert in 1997. After a long break, the opus interpreted by the musicians offers another intrigue of the concert: how has hearing this brilliant opus changed, what meanings has it filled?
