PHILIP GLASS - Piano Quintet No. 1 "Revelation" (Annunciation)
Every time they come up with original, interesting programs, this time the musicians of the Čiurlionis Quartet invite you to feel how two different worlds and artistic ideologies meet in music - those of Johann Sebastian Bach and Philip Glass. Although the creators are separated by centuries, it is interesting that their means of expression are similar - it is the development, repetition, transformation of limited, moderate musical material. The minimal musical matter of "The Art of Fugue" becomes one of the most universal and significant works due to J.S. Bach's infinite imagination, ingenuity and mastery. Current American minimalist Ph. Glass's Fifth Quartet leads in the opposite direction - the author even moves away from the ideology of minimalism, drifting towards a more conventional expression, still using his usual technique of repetition. In both cases, brilliant pieces of music are born, which have gotten rid of both the applied function of baroque music and only the illustrative, bright earlier Ph. Minimalism of Glass quartets. The third common feature of the concert program is the transcendental aspiration of both composers. Ph.D. Glass's "Revelation" is an expression of both Buddhist and Byzantine spirituality. But again, economical, limited and simple material is conveyed, as if from modest clay, which turns almost into the Grail.
For the important highlight of the program - the piano quintet "Revelation" - the quartet is joined by pianist Rokas Valuntonis. The performer is a LMTA (class of Prof. A. Žvirblytė), a graduate of the J. Sibelius Academies in Helsinki, trained in Paris with the famous pianist Eugenas Indjicias, and graduated from the Guildhall School of Arts in London with Peter Bithell. Among the many successful international competitions of the pianist - 1st prize and the "Bluthner" piano in the "Nordic piano competition" in Malmö, 2nd prize in the M. K. Čiurlionis piano competition in Vilnius, 1st prize in the Campillos competition in Spain, etc. The performer performs in prestigious concert halls, plays with well-known orchestras. in 2026 In the season, the pianist organizes a series of recitals in Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and other countries.
