"The cello is a tool for me, but through the cello my relationship with the world and my existence in it unfolds", says the famous Lithuanian cellist Mindaugas Bačkus, who actively performs as a soloist, as a member of ensembles and orchestras, and as the artistic director of the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, with this group he has prepared more than 500 concert programs with world-renowned performers both in Klaipėda, Vilnius and various halls of Lithuanian cities, as well as in important foreign venues in the scenes. The horizons of M. Bačkaus's musical interests as a cellist are extremely wide: from baroque to contemporary opus, from the traditional sound of the cello to electroacoustic experiments and participation in theater projects.
For this concert, the orchestra led by M. Bačkaus has prepared an intriguing confrontation - historically extremely distant compositions: the challenging "Goldberg Variations" of the baroque genius J.S. Bach, which the arranger D. Sitkovetskis called "the life force of music", and the Cello and String Orchestra Concerto No. 2 "Being". The work reflects the evolution of the composer's life on earth, from the first steps to idealism, from frustration to aggression, finally depicting the ascent of his soul into space.
