Virgilijaus Noreikas International Singers Competition is one of the most important events of Lithuanian vocal art, bringing together the most promising opera soloists from all over the world. The final round of the competition - the gala concert - invites you not only to immerse yourself in the excitement of the competition and support your favorites, but also to be the first to hear the voices that can become the brightest stars of the future opera scene.
The competition is dedicated to one of the most famous soloists of Lithuanian opera - the distinguished tenor Virgilij Noreikas, whose artistic activity and contribution to the development of Lithuanian vocal culture remain an important source of inspiration for today's performers. V. Noreika himself actively contributed to the establishment of the competition and the formation of its traditions - he participated in the preparation of the competition regulations and was a member of the evaluation committee of the first competitions.
The most talented contestants, selected by the international judging panel, will appear in the finals of the IV International Virgilijas Noreikas Singers Competition. Together with the symphony orchestra of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, they will perform two selected opera arias each and compete for the main awards of the competition.
This year, 180 singers from four continents were interested in the competition. Singers from 34 countries of the world participated in the selection stage. 82 participants from as many as 27 countries are invited to participate in the first round of the competition, including South Korea, Ukraine, Lithuania, Germany, Latvia, China, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Poland, Sakartvel, Slovakia, the Philippines, Israel, the USA, Croatia, Italy, France, Canada, Bolivia, Estonia, Mongolia, Norway, Austria, Serbia, Armenia, Portugal and Mexico.
The final concert will be conducted by Mārtiņš Ozoliņš, one of the most outstanding opera conductors of the Baltic States - the chief conductor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Theatre. During his career, he conducted numerous operas, ballets and concerts, and collaborated with prominent European and Asian orchestras, including the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Trieste Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi Orchestra, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sakartwell State Opera Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
The final concert will be followed by the announcement of the competition winners and the award ceremony.
