September 21 6:00 p.m. Concert Hall of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra
Concert of the Festival "World Piano Stars Welcome M.K. Čiurlionis"
Lucas Debargue (France)
Alexei Volodin (Spain)
From 2020, the Tytuvėnai Festival, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic and the M.K. Čiurlionis House in Vilnius organize Mikalojus Konstantinos Čiurlionis (1875–1911) birthday concerts. This is how a tradition is created to commemorate a unique Lithuanian artist while listening to famous Lithuanian and foreign pianists. Foreign performers, including Čiurlionis' works in their repertoire, glorify the culture of our country and, of course, the great creator. This kind of work made it possible to invite music lovers to one of the biggest piano music festivals in the Baltic countries in September 2025, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of M.K. Čiurlionis' birth. On every evening of the festival, M.K. Čiurlionis will be greeted by different, two global stars. For the first time, the birthday concerts of Čiurlionis come to the LVSO hall, where two world music celebrities Alexei Volodin (Spain) and superstar Lucas Debargue (France), coming to Lithuania for the first time, will invite you on a journey through M.K. Čiurlionis, E.Grieg, M.Ravel, F.Liszt and C.Frank's music.
Concert program:
Part I
Alexei Volodin
In the concert program - M.K.Čiurlionis, E.Grieg, F.Liszt
Alexei Volodin - a pianist already well known to the Lithuanian audience, who studied with a legendary piano teacher Eliso Virsaladze, who named her student as one of the most famous pianists of the young generation. The victory in the prestigious Geza Anda piano competition in Switzerland opened the door for the pianist to the great concert halls of the world. His solo concerts in recent years have been played at the Royal Festival hall and Wigmore hall in London, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Philharmonic in Paris, Auditoria Nacional de Musica in Madrid, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall in New York, and many others. With the world's most famous orchestras, Volodin has performed on all continents. He is one of the few pianists in the world who performed all five of S. Prokofiev's piano and orchestra concertos in one evening, as well as all of L. van Beethoven's piano concertos in one evening. Unlike many famous musicians, when Volodin sits down at the instrument, he knows how to find the golden middle between meaning and emotions, sensitive touch and impeccable technique. The pianist's repertoire ranges from Bach to Shchedrin. The Classical Source describes the pianist as a remarkable artist who "peels back layers of meaning and expression in everything he plays, engaging with fabulously discreet virtuosity."
