The ensemble "Paleasis" assembled by the charismatic piano virtuoso Alexander Paley makes its debut at the LVSO concert hall. The debut of the ensemble is marked by signs of the past and the present. In the center of the concert program is the world premiere of the work "Pėdos, smiltys, vejas - ki bualai atelės" (2024) by the composer Loreta Narvilaitė, dedicated to the ensemble "Paleasis". According to the composer, this piece is "a journey through the sounds of music, observing and reflecting on one's own and others' footprints, which are quickly covered by sand, constantly blown by the wind. Therefore, the melodic lines keep sliding, gliding, as if they were skating with their bare feet on the mounds of hard-packed Smiltynė sand. But they keep coming back home - double tonic F / D and all 16 minutes of the piece live in its field of sounds".
The color of the sound of Loreta Narvilaitė's composition is determined by echoes of Lithuanian songs, as well as the motif of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's piano concerto. The piece gives meaning to the unique composition of the ensemble - the expressive melodies of the piano and string instruments constantly intertwine with each other, swing up and down, and wind signals - signs, like beacons, show them the way. At the end of the piece, the static of flickering states and the leisurely flow of sounds are replaced by the piano passages of the soloist. They are like sudden gusts of wind that have created waves and wash away the feet and the sand. All that remains is the memories that you came here...
Programmatic and national allusions of the compositions can also be heard in other pieces of the concert. The sonorous Sextet in C Major by Ernst von Dohnányi (1877–1960), a Hungarian late romantic and early modernist composer, Op. 37 having accumulated a synthesis of traditional forms and new harmonious ideas. The sextet, for an unusual composition of piano, clarinet, horn, violin, viola and cello, reveals a wide palette of melodic and harmonic colors and textures marked by Hungarian overtones. The unique composition of the "Trout Quintet" in A major, D. 667 by the Austrian romantic Franz Schubert (1797-1828) - the harmonies of violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano enrich and expand the sound of the usual piano quintet. The title of this piece comes from the composer's famous Lied song "Trout" (German: "Die Forelle"), which is varied with a lively and sparkling melodic theme in the fourth part of the composition.
Ensemble Paleasis " debuted in 2022. June 26 At the Pazaislis music festival concert, held at the Kaunas State Philharmonic. "Not a one-day project, but an ensemble that regularly rehearses, performs and improves - this is my old dream. I am very happy that I managed to realize this dream in Lithuania. I have gathered 11 professional musicians who are like-minded with the goal of playing well-known and rarely performed classical music masterpieces on stage, and the premiere is still being created," says piano virtuoso A. Paleyus about the circumstances of the ensemble's emergence.
"Palease" actively performs concerts throughout Lithuania, so during the three years of its existence, the ensemble has become a guest of the audience of many big cities and surrounding towns in Lithuania. in 2023 The first "Paleaseis" tour took place in Chisinau Philharmonic Hall in the pianist's hometown of Moldova, where the ensemble was highly appreciated by both the audience and critics, calling the concert "undeniably amazing and providing unforgettable impressions". "Paleaseis" also received great reviews on tour in France, at the "Moulin d'Ande" festival, where their music was called "not of a festival level, but of a philharmonic level".
"Paleaseis" stands out for its with a unique composition of professional music performers, which allows making music together into a laboratory of chamber music, which opens up wide possibilities of repertoire and getting to know each other. "I appreciate the professionalism of my stage partners and the taste of the Lithuanian audience, so together with the ensemble we are constantly looking for opportunities to expand the repertoire and surprise and delight Lithuanian listeners with it," says A. Paley.
