The Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra invites you to hear the monumental 19th century. German romantic Felix Mendelssohn's (1809-1847) masterpiece "The Song of Praise". It is the second symphony in the world (after Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony) to include a choir. "Hymn" was composed in 1840. Commissioned by the city of Leipzig to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Johannes Gutenberg's printing press. The premiere of the work took place in 1840. June 25 Leipzig St. Thomas Church, where Johann Sebastian Bach served as music director for many years. It is not by chance that the "Hymn of Praise" was written according to the texts of the Bible - namely, the Latin Bible printed by J. Gutenberg in 1455. became the first printed book in Europe.

F. Mendelssohn's "Song of Praise" was created as a symphonic cantata and received the name of the Second Symphony only after the composer's death. The work consists of eleven parts: the first (in turn, consisting of three more parts) is purely orchestral, and the remaining ten are written for soloists, choir and orchestra.

In the LVSO concert hall, one of the most famous works by F. Mendelssohn will be performed by the best soloists of the Lithuanian Opera: soprano Lauryna Bendžiūnaitė, mezzo-soprano Skirmantė Vaičiūtė, tenor Edgaras Montvidas, the Kaunas State Choir (conductor Robertas Šerveniks) and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra.
