"Song Festival"
Musical memories from family video archives
The basis of the musical collage "Song Festival" was the 20th century. home videos of the last decade, which capture life episodes - they play various musical instruments and sing. This is the time when the beginning of Lithuanian Independence coincided with the spread of the first widely available personal video cameras. Their owners usually filmed their immediate living environment, family. Today, these household records become an opportunity to look at the beginning of the current independent society, to understand what remained and what disappeared, what became a long-term feature of society, and what was just a sign of the time. The work full of nostalgia, irony and warmth is an ode to the inevitability of passing time.

Director Karolis Kaupinis:
"The 1990s is the beginning of the life of the Independent State of Lithuania and, at the same time, of our generation. It was a naive time for those who started life, learning to do it, accepting everything with open eyes and hearts. At the same time, it was also the time when our parents gained the freedom and the opportunity to record that beginning directly with their first personal video cameras. Home videos were only an opportunity for a small privileged class in occupied Lithuania. Filmmakers in the first decade of Independence the number has increased dramatically. This is not the view of a director trying to show society, but simply a person recording the immediate living environment and routine. Today, when we ourselves have reached the age of our parents, these recordings become a great opportunity to look at the beginning, the origin of our society, and what was just a sign of that specific time. came from reviewing the material), so the idea arose that the way to interpret that material through music is the most appropriate."
