The new series of "Closer to Music" events with music historian and photojournalist Ludo Segers (Canadian living in Luxembourg)! We dedicate the first night to the wonderful music of guitarist Joe Pass and singer Ella Fitzgerald. We will combine listening to recordings with Ludo's interesting and personal stories about the artists and their work.
After a successful evening dedicated to the work of the legendary pianist Oscar Peterson in October, music historian and photojournalist Ludo Segers (Canada/Luxembourg) presents a new series of extremely interesting "Closer to Music" - Close Listening: Encounters with the Jazz Greats!

During his long career as a photographer, he had to capture world leaders in the midst of action, eye-catching portraits and inspiring landscapes. Soon he will turn his keen eye to the great jazz musicians at the Music Magic Club. Over the next half year, Ludo will invite listeners to several carefully prepared meetings, the essence of which is to carefully listen to jazz and get to know the most important recordings.
Each evening begins with a short introductory part to help you orient yourself to the program and the musical context. Later, the focus is on listening: selected records important to the history of jazz are played through very good equipment - we listen to them without any extraneous disturbances. Being with the music is complemented by the host's comments and short stories from his personal experience, which reveal the circumstances of the creation of the works, the relationships between the musicians and what usually remains behind the scenes.
The first evening of the cycle is dedicated to the music of the legendary jazz guitarist Joe Pass and the singer Ella Fitzgerald, known as the "queen of jazz" - Ludo has selected those works that best reveal the uniqueness of these artists. In the first part of the event, we will enjoy their mastery as individual musicians, and in the second part, we will immerse ourselves in the legendary moments of their duo - recordings made both live and in the studio. This is where the real magic will unfold: the trust between the two, mutual respect and musical telepathy. Ludo will talk about the technical solutions and artistic choices that made this duo unique!

At the beginning of April, in the continuation of the series "Close Listening: Encounters with the Jazz Greats", we will have the opportunity to meet the pioneers of the "cool jazz" musical style, the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and in June, Ludo will turn his attention to the song writer inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Elvis Costello! Ludo promised to speak little, but interestingly. As usual, we will focus on listening to high-quality recordings.

About the host of the event:
Ludo Segers is an experienced photographer and journalist, recognized for his artistic landscapes, psychologically evocative portraits and high-level photojournalistic work for LRT. Ludo has worked in prestigious institutions: the White House, the US Congress, French ministries and the most important international organizations, where he recorded high-level meetings. L. Segers is also an author of books and an artist participating in international exhibitions, with a versatile academic education - a master's degree, a double bachelor's degree in German and economics. His music collection reflects his eclectic musical taste. This combination of artistic depth, intellectual rigor, and a lifelong personal connection to jazz makes him an exceptional guide to musical exploration.
