We dedicate the last "Musical World Tour with Eirim Velička" event to diverse and rich Jewish music - together with the host, we will listen to recordings of Jewish liturgical music and learn to sing Hasidic melodies ourselves.
The last afternoon of the world music cycle is devoted to Jewish music. The diverse and rich Jewish musical tradition includes liturgical and secular music and reflects the great historical and cultural diversity of the places of residence. Ashkenazi, Sephardic and Yemeni musical traditions are distinguished.
In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to hear unique recordings of Yemeni Jewish liturgical music. A remote community of Yemenite Jews has been known since the time of King Solomon. These exotic liturgical hymns are not yet familiar to Lithuanian listeners. Giora Feidman's virtuoso clarinet sounds will continue the evening. This is klezmer - a living tradition of Ashkenazi secular music, which has absorbed the most beautiful melodies of the peoples of Central and Eastern Europe - Slavs, Romanians, Ottoman Turks. It is said that the Jewish clarinet both laughs and cries - Giora Feidman's clarinet can certainly do that.
At the end, we will listen to the composition "Tehlim" ("Psalms") by minimalist composer Steve Reich, in which he skillfully interweaves the poetic rhythm of David's psalms with the means of musical expression of postmodern minimalism. In the afternoon, we will not limit ourselves to just passively listening to music: everyone who wants to can learn to sing a couple of simple Hasidic melodies!
Ethnomusicologist Eirim Velička will lead the evening.

CLOSER TO MUSIC - these are not concerts, but evenings of meetings with music, led by interesting "companions" - musicologists, musicians, music lovers - fans of a certain genre, composer, instrument, performer or country's musical culture. They talk about the peculiarities of this music, demonstrate it live, select characteristic recordings for listening. The recordings are reproduced in high quality from vinyl records or high-resolution digital files - this allows you to feel the specific emotional content, evaluate the nuances of the performance, and reveal the depths of this music.
