It is interesting that in 1931 the very first vibraphone in the Baltic countries was brought from the USA to Lithuania (a year before the world's first vibraphone recording). The ensemble led by violinist Moišės Hofmekler introduced the audience to the sound of this instrument at the "Metropolis" restaurant in Kaunas. Not long after, the history of the vibraphone in Lithuania, which had just begun, was stopped by the Second World War, but today this instrument is returning to the scene with new strength and its special sound.

At the concert "Tylos dialogai" vibraphonist Marius Šinkūnas will open a new page in the history of this instrument together with his colleagues and together they will present a long matured debut album - the first jazz vibraphone recording in the history of Lithuania. The warm, meditative sounds of this instrument will blend here with the jazz guitar and the extremely rare, deep timbre of the Lithuanian double bass birbyne.

About the performers:

Marius Šinkūnas is a professional vibraphonist, performer and teacher. He got acquainted with the unique vibraphone performance technique and solo possibilities while studying at Western Michigan University (USA). After returning to Lithuania, he opened the first vibraphone class in the Baltic States and is consistently expanding the repertoire of the instrument. Currently, Marius is a doctoral student in education at Vilnius University, researching the history of the vibraphone and its significance in the context of world music. A teacher at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater, who educates students majoring in percussion instruments. "Tylos dialoguei" is the musician's first solo album.

Mindaugs Stumbras is a jazz guitarist and composer, a prominent jazz performer of his generation. The guitarist actively performs throughout Europe, appears at prestigious festivals ("Siena Jazz", "Vilnius Mama Jazz", "Kaunas Jazz", "Jazz is Back", etc.), plays with international music virtuosos. Released albums Our Kingdom (2018), Inspirations (2021) and Among the Pines (2023), Stung out (2025, with Chris Ruebens) and The Spinner of Yarns (2025). His ensembles have won Vilnius Jazz Young Power and Kaunas Jazz Competition prizes, and the performer himself - the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture's Young Creator Award (2022). One of the founders of the band Brave Noises.

Arvydas Jankus is a contrabass and alto birbyny performer, who actively participates in nurturing the Lithuanian wind tradition and its modern interpretations. For many years he has been playing in Lithuanian birbynia ensembles, among them the Vilnius birbynia quintet, with whom he appears in concerts throughout Lithuania. In the projects he performs, he combines the traditional Lithuanian sound with the aesthetics of modern music, giving the instrument new interpretive possibilities. In "Tylos dialogues" the double bass drum becomes a conceptual symbol of Lithuanian identity - a rare, archaic and uniquely unique sound color.
