September 2 At 7 p.m. St. At St. John's Church, Vilnius University (VU) choirs invite you to an exclusive concert, where two deeply spiritual, historically different, but thematicly close musical traditions - African -American spirits and Lithuanian sacred and folk choral music - will meet.
In the core of the concert, distress, African -American spiritual hymns, whose roots go to slavery times. These are the voices of pain and hope that have gained purified musical form for centuries and have been based on genres such as blues, jazz and soul. The works will be performed by a cappella, and they will be prepared and conducted by US conductor Irra Spaulading, conducting masterclasses for all three VU choirs: Pro Musica, Virgo and Gaudeamus.

The concert will be complemented by Lithuanian sacred and folk choral music, centered on the work of M. K. Čiurlionis. The concert will feature these works "Kyrie", "Gloria", "Sanctus" and M. K. Čiurlionis' harmonious Lithuanian folk song "Oh Giria, Pakes", "On the other side of the Nemunas", "The Dawn Dawn", which R. Gelgotienė was arranged for the women's choir.
The concert will combine emotional depth and spiritual elevation - from the heart to the sky.
