Opening concert of the 19th international folklore festival POKROVO VARPAI
For the 19th time, the international folklore festival "POKROVO BELLS" will delight its loyal audience with exceptional concerts, programs and performances. The events will take place on November 6-10 in St. Catherine's Church, Vilnius University, Vilnius Town Hall halls.
November 6. The festival will start with an impressive opening concert "Music for gourmets". St. Lithuanian and foreign folk groups will perform on the stage of St. Catherine's Church. Listeners will have the opportunity to enjoy unique examples of folk songs and traditional choreography performed by folklore ensembles from Armenia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Norway, Sakartvel, Ukraine, Germany.
UNESCO protected real cultural heritage values - Armenian duduk, traditional group dance Kočari, Estonia set polyphonic singing tradition, Ukrainian Cossack songs, Lithuanian sutartins, Kartvelian traditional polyphonic music - only some of the pearls of the festival. Colorful festival programs combine performances of the best ensembles, educational and scientific events.
Fostering the traditional music of various nations, the Pokrovo Varpai festival has been running since 2006. Folk ensembles from Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Estonia, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Mexico, Norway, Holland, Sweden, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, etc. were presented to the Lithuanian audience. p>
Strict selection of participants gives the festival audience a valuable opportunity to hear only high-level performers. All of them nurture authentic traditions, reveal the distinctiveness of their land and region, and present original programs.
This year's Festival program includes concerts in the best halls of Vilnius, folk dance evenings, and a scientific conference. with the participation of famous specialists in ethnography from Lithuania and abroad, an exhibition of ethnographic textile works by the Department of Textile Art and Design of the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Vilnius Town Hall, master classes and traditional singing and young artisans' laboratories.
