"Putty
Sound experience in the Vilnius ghetto
"Putty" is a sound journey through the territory of the former Vilnius ghetto and the jerking memories of the Holocaust. The sound map of the trip is made up of musical fragments specially created for each space, and the direction of movement is drawn by four voices of the Holocaust survivors, after the war from their native wool to Israel, the creators of putty in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haif in May 2019. Frida Sohat (b. 1929) was imprisoned in the Vilnius Ghetto, Kloga (Estonia) and Stuthof (Poland) concentration camps. He moved to Israel in 1957 because he wanted to meet his father who had survived the war. After leaving Vilnius, Joshua Zak (1929-2024) settled in Haif, a professor of physics at the Israeli Institute of Technology (Technion). 1989 discovered Z (K) - Zak phase, for this in 2014. awarded with the prestigious Wigier Medal. Sore Voloshin (1928-2020) was the only one of the relatives of more than 50 people in Vilnius. She was a cousin of Icchok Rudashevsky, a young Vilnius ghetto blog, killed in Paneri. Baruch Shub (1924-2020) was a participant of the Jewish underground movement during the war. After moving to Israel, he became an airline engineer. Until the end of his life, he gave lectures on anti -Semitism and was a member of various public organizations. The audio document, as a memory artifact, is the main axis of the work around which the musical interpretations of the former Vilnius ghetto streets, courtyards, corridors, apartments, halls, other spaces extend. The interviews heard in them loses purely verbal narrative function - recordings recorded in the recordings offer topics for choirs or electronic compositions, individual stories take on Aryan features, voices entry into sounds and become full means of musical expression. Everything is complemented by richly used binaurical records that give the headphones the impression of reality. This is how the aesthetics of the musical narrative of the "putty", the dynamic gesamtkunstwerk of today, is born, where the viewer's body and his movement in space become important. The work balances between "those times" and return to today. When exploring the limits of such movements, first of all in their own heads, the creative group does not hide from the fact that today's Vilnius is a rapidly changing, painted and restored, hug with building grids, and some are still waiting for a fresh putty layer. Creators accompanying viewers in chamber groups invite you to look at what is hiding under the putty and reflect on important questions: Is there a boundary of the Holocaust perception? Where does memory end and imagination begins (if this divide is possible at all)? In what forms do you return (or could you return) what was almost completely destroyed during the war? 2020 The creative team of the audio strolling in the Vilnius ghetto was awarded the Golden Stage Cross for the best dramaturgy.
Reviews:
Although the "putty" combines the lost Jewish Vilnius (through its people, architecture, etc.) with today's, cultural and barbaric layers, the city version, but very clearly, not the present, but the present - Rima Jažaitė, Menufaktura.lt
I have not experienced better interpretations of the current ghetto theme - because it is, of course, total experience. It is very difficult to appeal to feelings without manipulating them - this is exactly what the authors of this work succeed. Don't miss the opportunity. It is worth coming to Vilnius for a "putty". Lara Lampert, Head of Judaic Research Center of the Lithuanian National M. Mažvydas Library
The great value of "putty" is that the developers refuse to create a sculpture. They rather give a stone. Created audioism - albeit dense and multi -faceted, but careful breathing; Leading to the sensory, distracted from the field of meaning, it also simply breathes. Dovilė Zavedskaitė, 7 days of art
The storyline of the performance is like a jerk between the memories and history of the interlocutors, and between speeches and changing spaces, it is not possible to hear or find out, but rather feel or remember someone's dream and therefore experienced dream. Rimgaile Renevytė, 7 days of art
The creators of "putty" simply sacrifice themselves to find people who are killed today to discover their angels patrons. This is the most beautiful and expensive experience of putty in putty. The creators, without the fact, do not confuse the past, as if they are introduced and immersed in the world around and inside. Daiva Šabasevičienė, Vilnius Gallery
Historical memory on this journey does not appear as a reflection of the textography, but as an extensive, unpredictable imagination, individual and subjectively experienced drama. Ugnius Babinskas, mic.lt
