MB "Kaunas guide" invites you to discover the interwar architecture of Kaunas, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The great value of Kaunas - the interwar architectural heritage - is residential buildings, public institutions, public spaces and industrial architecture built in the 30s and 40s of the 20th century. These buildings still create a unique character of the city of Kaunas. In the period 1919-1940, the city experienced a lightning leap: it turned from a backward provincial town into a modern European capital. Architecture played a very important role here!

In the buildings of the interwar period, several style trends are evident: historicism, art deco, modernism, Lithuanian "national style" was also sought. During the excursion, we will see examples of "national style" and art deco architecture, as well as objects representing the state built in the style of historicism and modernism, and we will admire the architecture of residential houses of that time. We will remember famous interwar architects and see their works. We will learn about the path of modernism to Lithuania, what philosophy was reflected in the architecture of Kaunas at that time, why the modernist architecture of Kaunas is included in the UNESCO heritage list.*

Excursions take place on foot in the New Town of Kaunas (UNESCO heritage territory). We inspect the buildings from the outside, enter if possible.

Start of the tour: A. Mickevičius st. 28, Kaunas. At the entrance to the Best Baltic Hotel.

Duration: 2 hours.

Excursion ticket price: 18 EUR for an adult, 15 EUR for a senior, student; children up to 18 years of age, participating in the excursion together with adult family members - free of charge.
