We invite you to visit an artistically priestly apartment of writer Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas
Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas apartment-museum (division of the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum) was established in 1997. authentically according to archival photos, as the writer had taken all his rooms. In four memorial rooms, a practical simplicity with aesthetics combines. Vaižgantas himself called the environment of his apartment artistically priestly. He had, in his words, "inexpensive but selected paintings." These paintings, as at that time, hang in all rooms. There are some sculptures. Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas lived and created in this apartment for thirteen years. Through the windows of the apartment can be seen in the Blessed One. The Virgin's Assumption (Vytautas the Great) did not identify the church, which is the oldest early Gothic monument in Kaunas. Vaižgantas was the rector of this church for almost twelve years and took care of its rebuilding and repair. Since there was no sacristy in the church, all matters were handled in the order room. Vaižgantas was famous as a popular priest of the people, so there were never a shortage of visitors - those who dare to ask for money were also opened because he knew that the good -natured clergyman lends it. The room has a massive oak baroque work desk, and its author is the famous interwar Kaunas Baldžius Jonas Pruolenis. There is a canon in the corner, and in the closet, fur, even in the will mentioned by Vaižgantas, as the most expensive part of the Wardrobe.
In the guest room, the living room furniture set, a bookcase containing the Vaižgantas Library books. Here you will meet a museum inhabitant, a yellow canary Michael (according to Vaižgantas' novel "Uncle and Uncle") - the writer had the same bird.
The museum is a constant meeting with visitors with artists, new books, poetry and music festivals, tours and educational programs for visitors of all ages. Excursions and educational programs need to be booked in advance.
