Žilvinas Kempin's "Tūba" as a Myth of Eternal Return
Žilvinas Kempin returns to his native Plunge through a time tunnel created by himself. The installation "Tūba" in the Žemaicai Art Museum is the longest incarnation of the work. The artist built the light tunnel for the first time in 2008. Calder's atelier in France. Already the following year, he represented Lithuania with "Tūba" at the international Biennale of contemporary art in Venice. "Tūba" became the millennium tunnel - in 2009, the mentioned millennium of the name of Lithuania, and Vilnius was the capital of European culture. It is no less important that in the same year Plungė became the cultural capital of Lithuania. Therefore, the journey of Kempin's work to the author's birthplace was only a matter of time.
Entering "Tūba" we see ourselves inside and as if from outside, together with the silhouettes of people and things pulsating behind it. The light at the end of the tunnel turns from a metaphor into a reality that dissipates right there. After passing through the clairvoyant tunnel, we can listen to the gentle vibrations and start the journey again. Linear time spirals and becomes cyclical. "Tūba" by Žilvinas Kempin opens up the space of the myth of Eternal Return.
