"Streets are alive" is coming to Rykants! Just a dozen kilometers from the capital lies an area that many pass by without even thinking about it. No need at all! Rykantai is a small village on the old Vilnius-Kaunas tract, reminiscent of the times when merchant carts rumbled here, armies marched and different religious ideas clashed.
During the tour, we will look for answers as to how the small roadside village was discovered by the Crusaders, how it became an important center of religious changes, why one of the oldest surviving churches in the Trakai region was built here, and what legends accompanied its transformation. from a Calvinist house of prayer to a Catholic shrine. We will visit the renaissance church, get acquainted with the legacy of the Oginskii and Tolvaiši family, remember the march of Napoleon's army and the significance of the old tract in the history of Lithuania, and discuss other attractions of the area. For "dessert", we will allow ourselves to deviate a little from history to natural treasures.
This is a story about a small settlement, the grandeur of its history far exceeds its actual area! We kindly invite you to explore Rykantus together.
Date and time of the meeting: July 12. 11:40 a.m. Meeting place: Rykantai railway station (convenient to arrive by train!) Duration: about 3 hours End point: Vilsa waterfalls.-----
