Evangelical Lutherans and Evangelical Reformed (Calvinists) are two of the nine traditional Lithuanian religions, recognized in our country since the 16th century. The first Protestants in Vilnius were merchants and craftsmen who came from Western Europe and the sons of Lithuanian noblemen who had completed their studies there and adopted the spirit of the Reformation. Not long after, a protestant school was already operating in Vilnius, several houses of prayer opened their doors, the ranks of believers grew, books were printed... And although the Lutheran and Calvinist communities are not numerous today, their contribution to Lithuanian culture is truly remarkable.
During this excursion, you will learn where there were and are Protestant churches and cemeteries in Vilnius, what conflicts arose in the city due to religious differences, we will count several surnames of Protestants important to Lithuanian literature, immortalized on Literatau Street, we will visit the sculpture of M. Luther and see the site of the future monument to the Reformation.
The tour will last three hours: during it, we will meet with Reformed and Lutheran priests who are happy to answer the questions of the tour participants, so there will be a place to sit and rest during it.
