About the play "BUY THE ELEPHANT"
This is a mono performance directed by Eglė Kižaitė about truth and openness. Allowing yourself and others to feel feelings, not being indifferent to each other - not hiding elephants in rooms, seeing them and naming them. Feelings make us unique and free, trying to suppress them we lock ourselves in the room with the elephant and try to imagine that it is not there, but the elephant remains in the room even if we close our eyes and repeat that it is it is not here. And getting rid of it is not so easy.
The play written by Dovilė Zavedskaitė was highly rated in the contemporary dramaturgy competition "Talking about borders" organized by the Nuremberg National Theater. It is a work that reveals a portrait of a family accompanied by loss, suicide and depression. , but all the darkness and drama are offset by humor and irony. This family story attracted the greatest attention of director E. Kižaitė The boy who takes part in almost every scene is an eight-year-old child who is in the second grade. This is a child who finds himself in a particularly painful situation that no one can explain to him. It is this inability to talk to the child, the inability to express emotions, that is what inspired the director and the actor. Mantas Bendžių took this material and created a performance centered on the Boy bereavement, but still living through the events of those days. The whole story haunts him like an elephant whose presence he himself does not understand.
During the performance you will see a portrait of a person who has survived such strong events in his childhood, the one who suddenly lost everything without realizing it. Childhood experiences travel with us and have a huge impact on adulthood. Very often, in order to understand ourselves and the difficulties that arise, we must look back to our childhood. Even ten years later, the question - "Where's mom?" The boy's throat tightens, and every time the old house - mom's apartment - brings back all the memories. Now - after so much time, he knows well what happened, he knows that his mother is not there and why, but he is still preparing to accept and understand, to live the truth. The truth that those around him were unable to name when he was little. The fear of adults has imprisoned the Boy, making him unhappy, unable to deal with his feelings, and possibly nearing the same end as his mother...
You buy an elephant. Don't want to? Everyone says they don't want to, but you buy an elephant. No need? Everyone says it's not necessary, but you buy an elephant.
