What connects the interwar capital of Lithuania and today's capital of European culture? We invite you to look for the answer not by reading a history textbook or surfing the Internet, but by embarking on a live, experiential tour of Žaliakalnis.
This performance-excursion is not an ordinary walk with a guide. It is a performative event where history comes alive through dance, theater and music, and the audience becomes an active participant. Each step is like a rung on the stairs of time, leading from interwar Kaunas to today.
The journey starts from the legendary Kaukas stairs, one of the most prominent symbols of interwar Kaunas. According to architectural historian J. Kančienė, at that time it was the most beautiful staircase in Lithuania. And legend says that Kaukas reigns here - a small but mysterious hero of Lithuanian myths. Maybe you'll meet him too?
Headphone voices, authentic stories voiced by actors and music created especially for this project merge with the live action around you. The memory of the inhabitants of Žaliakalnis, documentary stories and modern artistic interpretation create a unique experience in which the city's past and present exist simultaneously.
This is a joint work of the dance troupe ULNA and the Kaunas - European Capital of Culture 2022 project - an artistic cross-section of the Kaunas cell, Žaliakalnis. Professional and young artists, community members and the history of the city meet here.
In this project, the viewer doesn't just watch - he listens, moves, stops, experiences. The city becomes a stage, and you become a part of it.
