Premiere - 2024 September 27 Klaipėda Puppet Theatre, Lithuania International premiere: 2024 October 10 Le Mouffetard Paris, France The puppet show "Kissing the Ashes" was born in collaboration with the French puppeteer, director Renaud Herbin. The theater invited the artist to create a work about Klaipėda - a city that has repeatedly risen from the ashes, so the play's dramaturgy is based on the events of the Second World War in the city. in 1944 In autumn, the majority of the old population was evacuated to Germany, the Red Army, which arrived in the city, found only a few people here. Klaipėda went through a huge change, there is a painful crack in its memory. Renaud Herbin together with the creative team decided to create a poetic dedication to this crack and to investigate - what does it mean to lose memory, how is the story told when not everything is remembered or does not want to be remembered, what is done with the cracks, whose narrator - actor or marionette - the story is more real? Since the historical narrative is an extremely delicate matter, the performance does not seek to recreate the truth - on the contrary - it uses fantasy, which is also a kind of memory, especially a collective one. Kissing the Ashes is one of a thousand possible stories about what happens when a city loses its memory.
