Staging based on Leo Tolstoy's short story "The Kreutzer Sonata"
Some consider Leo Tolstoy's short story "The Kreutzer Sonata" to be his best work, while others, on the contrary, contradict the ideas he expressed there. Passionate love, jealousy and public criticism are intertwined in the scandalous work.
On the train, a conversation begins about love, the position of women, emerging family conflicts and violence. A passenger who has been silent for a long time opens up about his unhappy marriage. He married a much younger woman who captivated him with her youthful beauty and innocence. Five children were born to them. However, the man is disappointed in love and marriage, because there are many quarrels, arguments and discord in the couple's relationship. He admits that he was overcome with jealousy and hatred because of his wife's close communication and playing music with the violinist, and killed her.
The confession of a man who killed his wife is told by the classic of Russian literature, the writer Leo Tolstoy in the short story "Kreizer's Sonata". Balancing between feminism and misogyny, the writer touches on more than one relevant topic: family relations, gender equality, love, passion and violence. The published short story caused an international scandal due to the expressed ideas about marriage and family values ​​- it was banned in both Russia and the United States.
"Kreizer's Sonata", which looks at the relationships between people, love, sex, jealousy, paranoia, is revived on the stage of the Klaipėda Youth Theater. The story portrays the conflict between sexual desire and moral constraints, and raises questions that are often silenced, unwilling or unable to answer.
