The novel "Buddha in the attic" of Japanese -born American writer J.OSuka (published several years ago and in Lithuanian) was immediately observed and evaluated by important American literary prizes. The book is based on a true xxa. At the beginning of the 19th century, Japanese expatriates from Tokyo to USA: After World War I, the Japanese men sailed to San Francisco to look for a job - some of them later returned to Japan, others stayed in America and started starting families. He sent a photo (not necessarily real) to Japan and waited for the bride to choose his future from photography.
The author follows in the footsteps of "Photography Brides" - traveling on a boating trip to America, watching the first meeting with a future husband, dreaming of a miraculous life in America. The rituals of everyday life last until the fateful morning of Perl Harbor, after which the Japanese were massively evicted by the Japanese from their homes, being removed and pierced- just disappeared as if it had not existed.
"Buddha in the attic" is the story of expats. It is also reminiscent of today's emigration, as well as the time of the occupation of Lithuania and the exile of Siberia, when thousands of people were quietly "wiped" from the map of Lithuania and the world and the Holocaust in Europe. It is a sensitive tale of its roots, the connection to the past and the ancestral in the era of the nations of the nations of the world, about the nation's self as strength and way of surviving.
Birutė Mar, the creator and director of the performance, studied traditional Nihon Buyo dance and noh theater in Tokyo, has published a Japanese blog book Coco (Vaga).
