For the first time in the history of the Panevėžys stage, the Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater and Panevėžys musical theater unites for a common goal - to tell the story of the legendary theater personality Juozas Miltinis and the beginning of the theater he created. The performance will feature live music from the Panevėžys Musical Theater Orchestra.

However, few people know how it all started, how the founders of the Panevėžys Theater lived in the first years of their creation, how they became actors, how they survived the Second World War and how the theater they cherished, which they considered a sanctuary of their art and an island where they found refuge, was formed from external political pressure, cultural decay, financial deprivation.

This story of the beginning of the Panevėžys Theater is surrounded by many myths and legends. It is said that the young actors who came to Panevėžys and their teacher J. Miltinis were accommodated in Marijonų st. in the monastery, where they actually began to live as real artistic monks - completely devoted to art and constant learning, without having the right to create families, communicate with the outside world, have fun. Everything was shared - place of residence, food, money, all troubles and joys. Not everyone survived it, but those who succeeded became legends.

The creators of the play decided to look at those difficult times of theater creation and invite the audience to explore the myth of young, passionate idealists, ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of great art, which they considered to be the essence of the world. The island that doesn't exist. The island they created by making sacrifices in order not to fall, not to drown in the oppressive and suffocating domestic reality.

2023. composer Mantvydas Leonas Pranulis was awarded the "Golden Cross of the Stage" for the music of the performance.
