For the first time in the history of Panevezys, Juozas Miltinis Drama Theater and Panevėžys Musical Theater united for a common purpose - to tell the history of the legendary theater personality Juozas Miltinis and his theater.
Today, the names of Juozas Miltinis, Donatas Banionis, Vaclovas Blėdis, Eugenija Šulgaitė, Regina Zdanavičiūtė and other Panevėžys Theater legends are included in the Lithuanian Culture Gold Foundation. But few know where it all started, how the founders of the Panevezys Theater lived in the first year of creation, how they became actors, how they survived World War II and how their cherished theater, which they considered their art shrine and an island where they found refuge from external political pressure, cultural dumbness.
This beginning history of Panevezys Theater is full of myths and legends. It is said that young actors and their teacher Juozas Miltinis, who came to Panevezys, were accommodated in the Monastery of Marijonų Street, where they actually began to live as true monks of art - completely dedicated to art and continuous learning, not having the right to start families, communicate with the outside world. Everything was a common place, food, money, all misery and joys. Not everyone withstood it, but those who succeeded became legends.
The creators of the performance decided to look at those difficult times of theater and invite viewers to study the myth of young, passionate idealists ready to sacrifice their lives in the name of the Great Art, which they considered the island of the world. An island that is not available. The island, which they sacrificed to make it so as not to decay, would not fall in the reality of the pressurized and fallen household.
The performance is performed by the music of the Panevezys Musical Theater Orchestra.
