For some time now, the city has been terrifying. Pretending to be dealers, they fall into the house, settle in the attic and soon burn those houses. Such an uncontrollable situation in the city is particularly sufficient by the wealthy businessman Mr. Byderman. While smoking a cigar on his luxury home site and sipping red wine, he loudly resented with a newspaper reporting another arson, which is similar to the previous one of the water drops: a good -hearted dealer settles in the attic and causes a fire. Byderman is forgotten because of such people's frivolity and declares that when the arson is caught, "need to be packed right away." At that moment, the maid announces that the arrival dealer is impatient to see Mr. Byderman. The stranger introduced himself to the homeless wrestler's surname, making and appealing to the businessman's humanity, convinces Byderman for at least one night to take up a newcomer ... From that moment on, the action turns at an uncontrollably rising speed. Benderman and his wife Babete could not even realize, the second "guest" settles in their homes, the attic fills the gasoline structures, and the newcomers are no longer hiding their arsonists. But Byderman, by the last moment, denies it and does not want to see what is really going on in his home. Bags in the hands of Byderman ... Will he succeed at a crucial moment to stop what his own help is done? What are the reasons for us to behave in such a way that we become accomplices of collapse?
The play "Byderman and arsonists" (1958) is attributed to the category of absurd plays by the famous Swiss playwright, writer Max Frisch. So far, the play, under the guise of comedy format, tells about the fundamental conflict between security and freedom, raises the problems of justice and intelligentsia, and criticizes the behavior of society. This 20th century. The classic work invites us to rethink that our efforts to live a quality life are of little importance when others want us to not. According to the performance director Gilde Alexa, in the consciousness of the present European consciousness, this play triggers an essential and long -delayed narrative that includes the belief that disasters happen to others, somewhere else, while the largest pest is right here in the attic or "outside the door." This constant collective denial, typical of Lithuania and Western society, is very reminiscent of the Byderman's efforts to lie to himself and not to divide everything into "black-white".
The name of Byderman is playful in the German word "Bieder" (valuable, honest) and "mann" (man). In a more general sense, he describes the type of reference, easily manipulated by the ordinary human mindset, when superficial values, attachment to a comfortable life overshadow the rational mind.
The dramaturgy of M. Frisha can be described as the theater of intellectual fantasy, so the performance is staged on a comic and playful basis, with elements of modern circus, acrobatics, physical comedy, absurd and magical tricks.
