The Vilnius State Small Theater invites the audience to the premiere performance of contemporary German director Christian Weise (b. 1973) "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" based on a vintage play by American playwright Tennessee Williams, for which the author was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. This is one of T. Williams' most famous works, revealing the desire for close relationships and the suffering of passions. A movie was made based on this play, and the play was staged several times in Lithuanian theaters. However, this time, this classic play will be revived on the stage of the theater in a new, unexpected way, because it will be revived on the stage of the Vilnius Small Theater by a director distinguished by his unique character and style. Ch. Weise. In many of his plays, the stories are constructed using a sort of "perverse", multi-layered, absurd, ironic, comic way of telling. The characters of the performances are bright, interesting, unique, the director's language is unusual, but it is used to reveal the story, seemingly completely naturally. This in itself creates a picturesque, extravagantly strange atmosphere in which the whole story unfolds. The play tells the story of how Papa, a plantation owner living in the south of the United States, celebrates his birthday with his whole family. Dad is terminally ill, but he doesn't know it yet. Therefore, a struggle for inheritance begins among his descendants. While her son Guper, his wife Mäjė and their spoiled children play a happy family in front of Daddy, Megė tries to convince her alcoholic husband Brikas to participate in the scramble for Daddy's pots of gold. However, Brik has already withdrawn from this competition. Not only because he had to give up his football career after the injury, but also in order to hide his love for his former teammate Captain and not appear to be a "pedic" in the eyes of his family and society. However, Megė is a persistent "cat on a hot tin roof" who later steps decisively into the unknown - she promises to give birth to Brick's child, presenting the pregnancy as a fact to Dad and the whole family. This 1955 written in 1974 updated play (this one was chosen by the director), the film version of which won an Oscar, Ch. Weise tells it as a horrifying story. Under the guise of kinship and supposed concern for relatives, there is a merciless struggle for hard-earned wealth. No outsiders are welcome here. He who, like Brick, strays from the established track, is brought back. An unpleasant truth is glossed over. Ch. Weise, an experienced researcher of bourgeois lifestyle, finds a biting humor in T. Williams's worldview and creates a world view where the intentions and motives of the characters are most beautifully revealed. American writer Tennessee Williams (Tennessee Williams, real name - Thomas Lanier Williams, 1911-1983) is today considered one of the three most influential writers of the 20th century. playwrights who, together with contemporaries Eugene O'Neill and Arthur Miller, maintained the high level of American theater in the 1950s and 1960s. Critics call T. Williams's works "poetic realism", their psychological layers show people's imperfection and weaknesses in the face of the life that has enslaved them. The creative legacy of the author is 30 plays, numerous short stories, poems and short stories, which, together with the impressive biography of the writer, remain the subject of research by many literary historians. T. Williams about his plays: "It is a cry, almost a scream, the need for a universal, deeply human effort to know yourself and others much better - so much so that you recognize that no one person is privileged to know what is right and what is virtuous more than another, knowing what is hypocrisy and what is evil, and so on. If people - races and nations - started from this self-acknowledged truth, then, I believe, the world would turn away from this degeneracy, which I have unconsciously chosen as the essential, allegorical theme of all my plays.*"CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF is presented by special arrangement with The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee."Prepared by the Vilnius State Small Theater in cooperation with the Lithuanian Goethe Institute, Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF Creative team: Director - Christian Weise (Germany) Author of the play - Tennessee Williams Playwright - Beate Seidel (Germany) Set designer - Julia Oschatz (Germany) Costume designer - Josa Marx (Germany) Composer - Jens Dohle (Germany) Lighting designer - Audrius Jankauskas Special mechanical effects - Aistis Kavaliauskas Assistant costume designer - Sidas Martinavičius Assistant director - Andrius Merkevičius Play in Lithuanian translated by Lilija Vanagienė The translation of the play was reviewed and updated by Andrius Merkevičius Translator from German during rehearsals - Jūratė Sviackevičienė Cast: MARGRETA - Teklė BarotiBRIKAS - Šarūnas JanuškevičiusMĖJĖ - Gintarė Latvėnaitė-GlušajevaMOTUŠĖ - Ilona KvietkutėTĖTUŠIS - Tomas Rinkūnas TÜKERIS - Balys LatėnasGUPERIS - Tomas Kliukas DOCTOR BO - Tomas Stirna GIRL - Larisa Kalpokaitė LITTLE BOYS: Jonas Braškys, Mindaugas Capas Musicians: DRUMS - Ignas Kasikauskas GUITAR - Žygymantas Juozas Bačkus PREMIERE 2024 October 3, 4, 5 Duration: 1 hour 50 minutes N-16 uses uncensored language, smoke is used.
