The organizers of the cycle "Readings: Drama Classics" - LNDT actors Vytautas Rumšas and Dalia Michelevičiūtė - decided to present the most famous twentieth century to the audience. French playwright Jean Anouilh's Antigone, written by an antique Sophocles tragedy.
"Antigone" is the last part of the famous Greek trilogy. The trilogy of Oedipo (οἰΔίποй, Oidipus) tells of the Greek hero of the tragic fate, who saved the sophisticated but unconsciously killed his father and married mother.
Antigone - Oedipus and Jokaste's daughter, accompanied by his father to exile. Later she returned to thebes, but the tragic fate chased the heroine. Due to the arguing of the authorities, the duel of her brothers and Polineikis ended with the death of both brothers, and the power of thebes was taken over by their uncle Creont. He ordered the defenders of thebes and other defenders of thebes to be buried, and the body of Polyeik, who betrayed the country, told him to leave the dogs and birds to be torn. Antigone did not accept such contempt - the heroine's heroine was determined to bury Polineika. Antigone was punished for that, but did not regret it because he remained faithful to his beliefs and did not violate humanity.
Like Sophocles Antigone, Anouilh Antigone examines the dissonance of state laws and moral consciousness and tragic heroism of sacrifice. In this piece, Anouilh modernizes structure and tone to emphasize that the narrative remains important in the 20th century. Anouilh's Antigone was first shown in Paris in 1944. On February 6, during the Nazi occupation, then the parallels of the French resistance and Nazi occupation were very clear.
Although the antigonus initially justifies his misconduct, the duty he feels, eventually becomes a struggle for their moral code without compromises. Michelevičiūtė
