Performance
If you asked you to choose one book and learn it in memory so that it would remain together even when you can't read - what book would it be? The exciting performance "Memoribly" is born of this issue, with a twelve -year -old director, playwright, actor, and lately Tiago Rodrigues, the head of the Avignon Festival, is attending scenes of various countries. Since the creation, the performance has already been shown on several continents more than 350 times.
The creator says that the starting point of the performance is his connection with his grandmother, who is the epicenter of the performance, alongside the great writers, poets and their texts: “My connection to grandmother has always been very strong. We have a huge love for books, reading. Reading, reading it as long as I could.
"Memoribly" is a performance-manifesto, centered on the power of poetry and unexpectedly the community that formed here before the audience. Ten volunteer viewers who come to the stage from the hall, together with the director, learn the text - neither very complex nor very simple. The question is probably, what's the point of creating a performance today about poetry learning, when people in our time try to remember unless passwords and PINs?
Learning today implies the importance of exchange and transmission - invisible smuggling of words and ideas, which only takes place when we know the texts in memory. This performance talks about theater, which sees itself a place for such exchange. For exchanges with contents immeasurable in meters, euros or bytes. The Tiago Rodrigues' performance "Memory" is an ode to poetry, memory and freedom.
Theater as a weapon
"Memoribly" is a performance about a hiding place for prohibited texts that each of us has in our minds and heart. It is a place whose content guarantees the preservation of human civilization even in the most barbaric and desperate times. As George Steiner said: "If only ten people learn a poem memory, neither the KGB nor the CIA or the Gestapo will do nothing. The poem will remain." We can consider the performance "Memorily" a resistance training program, which is completed when ten new soldiers learn a poem.
